Auth Bot Guide

Everything you need to know about setting up and managing Auth Bot in your Discord server.

Getting Started

Get Auth Bot up and running in your Discord server in under a minute.

Adding the Bot

Click the Add to Discord button on the homepage or use the invite link to add Auth Bot to your server. The bot only requires the Manage Roles permission.

1

Invite Auth Bot

Use the invite link to add the bot to your server. Make sure you have Administrator permissions.

2

Run /setup

Use the /setup slash command to start the configuration wizard. You'll choose a verification type, channel, and role(s).

3

Link your account (if using unlockers)

If you choose Unlocker or Unlocker + Captcha verification, you'll be prompted to link your Link Unlock account.

4

Done!

The bot will post a verification embed in your chosen channel. New members can click 'Verify Me' to begin.

Tip

Make sure Auth Bot's role is above the roles it needs to assign in your server's role hierarchy. Otherwise, role assignment will fail.

Verification Types

Auth Bot supports three verification modes to suit different server needs.

Captcha Only

Members complete a secure captcha to prove they're human. This is the simplest mode and doesn't require a Link Unlock account. Ideal for servers that just want basic bot protection.

Unlocker Only

Members must complete all social actions on your Link Unlock unlocker page (e.g., subscribe on YouTube, follow on Twitter) before being verified. Requires a linked Link Unlock account with at least one Discord-enabled unlocker. Perfect for creators who want to grow their audience.

Unlocker + Captcha

The most secure option. Members must first complete all social actions on your unlocker page, then pass a captcha. This combines audience growth with strong bot protection. Also requires a linked Link Unlock account.

Configuration

Manage your server's verification settings with slash commands.

Available Commands

/config view

View your server's current verification configuration including the type, channel, roles, and active status.

/config edit

Update your verification settings. You can change the verification type, channel, and/or roles in a single command. Only the fields you specify will be updated.

If you change the channel, the old verification embed will be automatically deleted and a new one will be posted in the new channel.
/config toggle

Enable or disable verification for your server. When disabled, the verification embed remains but members won't be able to verify. Existing verified members keep their roles.

/config unlocker

Change which unlocker is used for verification. Only applies to Unlocker or Unlocker + Captcha verification types. If you only have one Discord-enabled unlocker, it will be selected automatically.

/config reset

Remove all verification configuration from your server. You'll need to run /setup again to reconfigure.

Warning

This action cannot be undone. All verification settings will be permanently removed.

Changing Verification Type

When switching between verification types, keep these things in mind:

  • Switching to Captcha Only removes any linked unlocker from the config.
  • Switching to Unlocker or Unlocker + Captcha requires a linked Link Unlock account with at least one Discord-enabled unlocker.
  • If the values you provide are the same as the current config, no changes will be made.
  • The verification embed is only re-sent when the channel changes.

Ownership & Transfers

Understand how config ownership works and how to transfer it between accounts.

How Ownership Works

Every server config has an owner — the Link Unlock account that controls it. The owner's unlockers are used for verification (if applicable), and the config is tied to their account.

When a config loses its owner (through unlinking or transfer), it becomes orphaned. Orphaned configs automatically fall back to Captcha Only verification until a new owner claims them.

Transferring Ownership

Use /config transfer when you need to hand off a server's config to a different Link Unlock account.

1

Run /config transfer

This orphans the config — it switches to Captcha Only and detaches the current owner.

2

New admin links their account

A setup link is provided. The new admin clicks it to link their Link Unlock account and claim ownership.

3

Config is restored

The new owner can then use /config edit to set the verification type back to an unlocker-based mode.

Note

Transferring only affects the current server. If you own configs in other servers, those remain unaffected.

Unlinking from the Dashboard

You can also unlink your Discord from your Link Unlock account via the Link Unlock dashboard. This is a broader action that affects all servers you own.

  • All your server configs switch to Captcha Only and become orphaned.
  • The bot notifies each affected server's owner about the change.
  • Any server admin can run /setup to claim ownership with their own account.
  • Your Link Unlock account remains intact — only the Discord link is removed.

Important

Dashboard unlinking is different from /config transfer. Transfer affects one server; dashboard unlinking affects all servers you own.
